How to Activate a Windows Server License

Activating Your Windows Server License

After purchasing a Windows Server license from Aserver, you will receive an activation key by email and in your order details. Here is how to apply it.

Online Activation (Recommended)

1. Open Server Manager
2. Click Local Server in the left panel
3. Click the activation status link next to Windows Activation
4. Select Activate Windows
5. Choose Enter a product key and enter your 25-character key
6. Click Next and follow the prompts

Command Line Activation

If you prefer the command line or are activating remotely:

# Open Command Prompt as Administrator
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX   # enter your key
slmgr /ato                                    # activate online
slmgr /xpr                                    # check expiry status

If Activation Fails

• Ensure the server has internet access
• Check that you are using the correct edition key (Standard vs Datacenter)
• Try phone activation: slmgr /dti for an installation ID, then call Microsoft
• Contact Aserver support if the key is rejected — we will verify and replace it

License Key Security

Keep your key in a safe place. Aserver stores a record of all issued keys linked to your account, so you can always retrieve it from your order details.
